EXG Transports 1360 MT Of 40860 MT For The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project

news-details

The Express Global Logistics (EXG) team and their partner successfully transported the first of 30 OSD (Orthotropic Steel Decks), weighing an incredible 1362 MT.

Transportation was done for one of India's most significant infrastructure projects, the "Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Project (MTHL)". The cargo was moved to the Heavy Civil Infrastructure IC site, Sewri, Mumbai.

The OSD measured L 118 m x W 14.87 m x H 7.5 m. The cargo was transported on 12 axle line x 4 (48 axles) and a 12 axle line x 2 ( 24 axles), totalling 72 self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) axle lines with 4 Power Pack Units (PPU).

The first of the 30 pieces of cargo was moved from the manufacturing unit's assembly line to Kerosene Jetty; the load transfer at the jetty was done from SPMT to the skid chair car.

Some salient features of the Operation were:

  • Being involved at the nascent stage of the project by supplying the SPMT stool structure design to the client.
  • Aligning the locking plate of the OSD on tilting hinges twice with a bare minimum tolerance of 10mm, first on the axle during transport and second during the load transfer to the skid chair car.
  • Handling the special machinery with precision considering the size and weight of the cargo.
  • To match the project planning implementation in 2 days.
  • The team coordinated the transportation by factoring in high tide that happens only twice a month at this jetty for smooth roll on and roll off movement.

The team's thorough planning to organise and prepare at the site before the cargo movement took place allowed for smooth project execution.

The EXG team ensured the highest safety standards. EXG was committed to speeding up the transport and is proud to be associated with the prestigious MTHL project.
